CHARLTON ATHLETIC 1 (Zheng 82)
BARNSLEY 1 (Christensen 90)
DANISH striker Kim Christensen was the Reds hero has he earned a late, late point with a fine finish at The Valley to net his first goal for the Club in dramatic fashion.
Reds boss Simon Davey unsurprisingly kept faith with the side that stormed past Bristol City on Tuesday night meaning Peruvian international Miguel Mostto was given another chance to impress alongside Kayode Odejayi. Jamal Campbell-Ryce returned to his former side and started the game on the right hand side of midfield with free-scoring Brian Howard looking to add to his tally of six goals.
Howard and Anderson De Silva were one caution away from suspension going into the clash at The Valley.
The Addicks started well with Luke Varney getting in on goal with just three minutes on the clock but Heinz Muller was in the right place to make a comfortable save.
At the other end Lewin Nyatanga almost got a header towards Nicky Weaver on five minutes as he met Howard's near post corner but the Athletic defence was able to clear.
Campbell-Ryce then did well to pick out Odejayi at the back post on seven minutes and the big Nigerian nodded the ball down for Grant McCann but the midfielder shot wide of the target from 18 yards.
Barnsley had a lucky escape on nine minutes when Andy Reid smashed the ball against the bar after Muller had cleared Darren Ambrose's corner kick. The Irishman picked the ball up 25 yards out and beat Muller but could only watch as his effort rattled the bar.
De Silva almost caught out Weaver on 15 minutes with a cheeky free kick from the left but the Brazilian got his angles all wrong and fired over the bar.
Varney again did well on 17 minutes to give Ambrose a shooting chance in the area but the former Newcastle midfielder shot straight at Dennis Souza when well placed. Varney then showed his predatory instincts in the area a minute later as he reacted quickest to Chris Iwelumo' knockdown but the striker could only shoot over from 12 yards.
At the other end Anderson did well to hold up the Addicks backline and give Campbell-Ryce the chance to cross on 20 minutes but Odejayi could not put his header on target from 12 yards.
Mostto finally found a yard of space in the area on 21 minutes as he raced onto Foster's free kick before teeing up McCann but the Northern Irish international could only shoot high over the bar.
Muller had to be at his very, very best on 23 minutes as Varney found the right pass to send Reid in on goal but the big German was quickly off his line to make a fine block.
Reid again got into a good position on 28 minutes as he found a yard outside the area but put his shot wide of the goal although he had Muller scrambling.
Reid was again Charlton's main threat on the half hour as he picked out a fine cross to give Zhi Zheng a free header from ten yards but the frontman could not put his effort on target.
Campbell-Ryce brought a fine save from Weaver on 43 minutes after breaking onto Mostto's wayward pass but the Athletic keeper managed to claw the ball around the post.
Charlton had a claim for a penalty waved away within 60 seconds of the restart when substitute Svetoslav Todorov hit the deck easily under De Silva's light challenge. The referee rightly gave nothing.
Barnsley were left thanking their lucky stars again on 49 minutes when Zheng's rose highest to meet Reid's corner but his effort cannoned away off the bar with Muller struggling.
At the other end Odejayi and McCann almost got a neat build up right on 56 minutes as they combined to send Mostto away but the ball just beat the little Peruvian and Weaver was quickly out to smother the danger.
Zheng then managed to get the wrong side of the Barnsley midfield on 57 minutes and get a shot away but his effort was always flying over the bar.
Charlton were lucky on 60 minutes as McCann drove wide of the target after Weaver had made a complete mess of Campbell-Ryce's cross but the referee amazingly gave the keeper the benefit of doubt and gave a free kick.
The home side went close to an opener again on 65 minutes as Sam Sodje found himself free at the back post to attack Reid's cross but the defender headed wide when well placed.
Barnsley again had a lucky escape on 68 minutes when the ball bounced to Ambrose in the area but the midfielder somehow managed to shoot wide of an open goal under little pressure after Muller had palmed away the initial cross.
Charlton got another decision on 80 minutes when Iwelumo threw himself over Nyatanga's leg. Reid curled in the free kick from 30 yards but Muller was in the right place to save. From Reid's corner Howard had to be alert to head Madjid Bougherra's effort off the line.
Charlton finally got their breakthrough just a minute later when Iwelumo knocked the ball down to give Zheng a simple header from inside the six-yard box.
The Reds were almost back in it on 88 minutes as Howard's free kick had the Charlton defence scrambling but De Silva could only head straight at Weaver from 10 yards.
Barnsley got their equaliser on 90 minutes as Martin Devaney's cross bounced around in the Charlton area. Athletic were sloppy and Kim Christensen was on hand to slam the ball into the back of the net from six yards out.
Charlton threw everything at the Reds and Danny Mills fired with on 91 minutes under pressure but Barnsley could have won it just two minutes later as Devaney's cross fell to McCann but the midfielder somehow shot wide with the goal gaping.
