BARNSLEY star Kayode Odejayi is looking to shoot down some of the best players in African football and keep his hard-earned place in the Nigerian squad after this summer's internationals.

Kayode was shocked at his call up to the Nigerian squad for this month's friendly in Austria and June's World Cup qualifiers in June but the striker wants to make sure he stays in coach Shaibu Amodu's plans.

Kayode told www.kickoffnigeria.com: "There are a lot of great players in the team, like Kanu and Yobo and Yakubu and I have even seen Julius Aghahowa at Wigan and he is a quality player too. I can't be intimidated by the big players in the squad. I mean we are all in this together and we are all part of the same team and now that I have been given the chance I hope I can prove myself and help the team qualify for the World Cup."

"It will take a lot of hard work and a lot of effort and I have to be positive and show my best qualities that made me selected in the first place and maybe a few others as well. Hopefully, that will be enough to keep me in the squad."
