THE Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Len Picken, has today given his support to the Reds' 'Stronger Together' campaign and called for the local community to back Simon Davey's side in the 2008/2009 season.

Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Cllr Picken said: "I think the club's offer is a marvelous idea.

"I started going to Barnsley matches in 1938 with my Dad and my five brothers, and they remain some of the happiest memories of my life. As soon as I went, I was smitten, and once you're a Barnsley fan, it stays with you forever.

"I have had the privilege of serving as Mayor of this wonderful town for the past twelve months, which as one of the perks has meant that I've been able to watch my beloved club from the director's box. Come August, I'll be back to being a standard season ticket holder, just another face among the crowd.

"Hopefully, I'll be joined by hundreds, maybe thousands more; who take advantage of the club's excellent offers for the coming season. I look forward to seeing you all down the 'Well. Come on you Reds!"
