BARNSLEY Football Club completed the signing of giant German goalkeeper Heinz Muller from Norwegian side Lillestrom in August 2007.

Born in Frankfurt, Heinz started his professional career with Hannover 96, spending four seasons in the first team before joining Arminia Bielefeld in 2001. Spells with St Pauli and Jahn Regensburg followed before he made the move to Norway in 2004 with Odd Grenland.

The 6'6" star joined Lillestrom in 2005 and has made 41 appearances for the Norwegian side, including one against Newcastle United in the Intertoto Cup last summer. Heinz has been a regular for Lillestrom again during the current Norwegian campaign.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract at Oakwell.

A delighted Reds manager Simon Davey, who has tracked the giant German all summer, told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "It is very pleasing when all the hard work put in by the Board and management pays off and we bring in a player we have chased for the last eight weeks.

"We are delighted to have Heinz with us and he will be another fine addition to our squad".

The big German made an instant impact at Oakwell and was one of the performers of the season before a knee injury ended his campaign in January 2008. Regarded as the best keeper in the Championship, Heinz pulled off a string of notable stops including penalty saves against Preston and Wolves.
