PAUL Reid became the eighth new arrival of summer 2004 at Oakwell when he moved from Northamptn Town in mid-July.

The 22-year-old started his career with Carlisle United and made 22 first team appearances for the club before a six-figure transfer to Scottish giants Rangers in 2000. He had a loan with Preston North End during the 2002/2003 campaign before arriving at Northampton Town on loan in December 2002. Paul made his Northampton Town debut at Oakwell in a 2-1 victory for the Cobblers in January 2003.

The loan move was made into a permanent switch the following summer and Paul impressed during his time at Sixfields, wearing the captains armband last season.

The Reds only spent money once during the summer of 2004 and that was to prise Paul away from Northampton and it was cash well spent. The versatile defender spent most of the season flitting between midfield and the back but was still one of the Reds most consistent and impressive performers. He made a goalscoring debut on the opening day of the campaign and went on to make 44 appearances in total, netting four goals.
