MIDFIELDER Simon Heslop joined the Reds in the summer of 2003 after coming up through the youth teams before being offered a scholarship at Oakwell.
The youngster made the breakthrough to the reserve team during his first year with the club and impressed both at second string and Academy level. A string of excellent displays for both the U18s and reserves saw him handed a first team squad number in October 2004.
Highly-rated both at Oakwell and elsewhere, Simon enjoyed a work experience spell with Kidderminster Harriers during the 2005/2006 campaign, making 22 appearances for the Conference side. He returned to Oakwell and put in a string of excellent displays at Academy and reserve team level to earn a new two-year deal.
Although Simon did not make the breakthrough at first team level at Oakwell, he enjoyed a very productive six month spell on loan at Tamworth. He was finally handed his Barnsley debut on the final day of the 2006/2007 campaign at West Brom.
Simon joined Northwich on loan in September 2007 before moving to Halifax on a similar basis a month later.
Simon again found himself out on loan during the 2007/2008 campaign, spending most of the season with Halifax Town where he clocked up 33 games.Reds Record (to end of 2007/2008 season)
